At the exit of the San Alberto funeral home in Pamplona, dozens of agents of the Foral Police of Navarra, dressed in their traditional red uniform, embraced inconsolably with family and friends of the five agents who died this Wednesday in the worst traffic accident since records began in Gipuzkoa. The president of Navarra, María Chivite, also traveled there after the plenary session, which began with a minute of silence. The president conveyed “the condolences of the entire Government and all Navarrese citizens” and wanted to make it clear that the Foral Police “is the most beloved institution, something that is demonstrated at this moment, because the expressions of sympathy, condolences, and affection that we have received not only from Navarrese citizens but from all over Spain have been overwhelming, and I wanted to convey this to the families.”

She is not the only authority who has visited the funeral home this morning. The head of the Foral Police, Iván Ortuerta, lamented the “hard blow” and stated that they were “professionals much loved by the entire organization.” The mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asiron, also said that the news was “a real tragedy and a devastating loss.” “Sadness, pain, and helplessness,” wrote the lehendakari, Imanol Pradales (PNV), in a post on X, describing the event as “a serious accident when they were on their way to work.” “The news has overwhelmed us. With all our hearts, our solidarity, affection, and condolences to the families and friends,” he maintained.

The colleagues of the five police officers have left a small tribute to the deceased on the official Foral Police account on X. “Always in our hearts. Your mark is indelible,” they wrote before dedicating a few brief words to each of them for the “deep pain” the news had caused them and the “infinite respect and love” they had for them.
Fermín Sola was remembered as a “born leader, a reference in his division, and a tireless professional. Always willing to help anyone in need selflessly; wholeheartedly dedicated to others and, especially, to his family.” Of Sub-inspector Jesús María Vidaurreta, they highlighted the “loyalty, generosity, and sacrifice that made him a police officer.” “His vocation was innate, always prioritizing service and caring for his beloved family and the institution so closely linked to our Corps with infinite pride,” they wrote.

About Miguel Antonio D’Entremont, they recalled his “eternal smile and optimism” that “illuminated the most difficult moments.” All of them have been distinguished in the text for their absolute dedication to their families. About Juan Martín Domínguez, they stated that he was “a discreet and helpful professional, with a great capacity for giving.” In the same vein, they highlighted Miguel Crespo as “an exemplary colleague, extremely professional, and with great commitment.”
The latter was also remembered by the Saray association in Navarra, which helps and supports people suffering from breast cancer, and which expressed its “deep sorrow” for the deaths. They pointed out that Crespo was the driving force behind the first Solidarity Race against Breast Cancer in Navarra and the sports director of this initiative since its inception. The association wanted to thank him in a statement for “his commitment, his work capacity, and his generosity.” “That idea became a reality that, fifteen editions later, continues to mobilize thousands of people in favor of research and support for those living with breast cancer,” they wrote, adding that “today it is hard to accept such a painful loss.”
The funeral for the five agents is scheduled to be held this Friday at seven in the evening in Pamplona Cathedral. In addition, the Government of Navarra will also organize a farewell ceremony, according to Navarrese media reports.
