In a new chapter of La Colombia que queremos, Diana Calderón speaks with economist Ana Fernanda Maiguashca, who has been co-director of the Banco de la República, deputy superintendent of Risks, and vice minister of Finance. Despite the technical nature of the positions she has held, she understands economics as a profoundly human science. From there, she has been able to understand “the social complexity, inequality, and levers” that define Colombia. And likewise, how difficult it is to make changes, due to the extreme number of impediments: “No matter how much you swim, you are swimming upstream,” she comments. She assures that the country has been built on distrust and is full of pain. However, she invites us to fall out of love with the idea of grievance and, instead, to think about progress.
