Hezbollah distances itself from attack that killed a Serbian peacekeeper and injured two Spaniards
The Shiite group Hezbollah has distanced itself this Friday from the mortar attack that killed a Serbian soldier and injured two Spaniards from the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and has called the Israeli army’s accusations identifying it as the perpetrator of the launches “unfounded.”
“The enemy’s accusations that the Resistance attacked a UNIFIL position in the town of Debbine and caused the death of one of its soldiers are an unfounded allegation and a complete falsehood,” the political and armed movement denounced in a statement.
“This is especially so given that the accusation comes from the same enemy that has never concealed its discomfort with the presence of international forces in southern Lebanon and its constant efforts to limit their role, because they are living witnesses to its crimes,” it added. (Efe)

Hezbollah and Israel exchange attacks despite ceasefire
Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah have once again exchanged attacks in recent hours, despite the ceasefire negotiated during a new round of dialogue between Israel and Lebanon this week in Washington.
The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reports this Friday that Israeli warplanes attacked the vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital, located in Tyre (southern Lebanon), with more than four missiles. “Simultaneously, an artillery bombardment was recorded against the city of Deir Amas,” also in the Tyre district, the NNA adds.
Hezbollah states in a communiqué that, at dawn, it attacked a concentration of Israeli vehicles and soldiers in the vicinity of Beaufort Castle with a precision missile, “in response to the Israeli enemy’s violation of the ceasefire and attacks against villages in southern Lebanon.”
Israel and Lebanon, with US mediation, agreed on Tuesday to a ceasefire conditioned on Hezbollah ceasing both attacks and operations in southern Lebanese territory. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the day before that he is awaiting internal “responses” to the proposals negotiated with Israel and assured that a solid cessation of hostilities could be implemented just 24 hours after receiving the green light.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, for his part, criticized the “humiliating” negotiations with Israel and argued that any ceasefire must be “comprehensive,” assuring that they will continue to confront Israeli attacks as long as they continue.
The planned plan, announced on Tuesday in a joint statement, contemplates the creation of “pilot zones” in Lebanon that must be controlled by the Lebanese army and where there can be no presence of the Shiite movement.
Lebanon and Israel had already agreed on an initial ceasefire in mid-April, which has been extended on paper until early July, although in practice it has not prevented the continuation of attacks by both sides, with hundreds of new deaths in Lebanese territory. (Efe)
