The fire of two trucks has forced the closure of the AP-7 in both directions at the height of Castellet i la Gornal (Barcelona) this Monday afternoon, the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) reported in a statement. The incident was caused by “a side collision” between two vehicles – one of them carrying aerosols – which ended up catching fire due to friction and increased temperature. Despite the dramatic nature of the accident due to the dense column of smoke, there were no injuries caused by the crash.

In extinguishing the fire, which has generated a large column of smoke visible from several kilometers away, 12 teams from the Generalitat Firefighters are working, the emergency body reported in a message on ‘X’ collected by Europa Press. Until the fire is extinguished and the road is cleaned, no lane of the highway can be reopened.

The incident has forced the activation of the special emergency plan for accidents involving the transport of hazardous goods by road and rail in Catalonia (Transcat) at alert phase and the closure of traffic in both directions, causing four kilometers of traffic jams in each direction.
Meanwhile, the 112 phone line has confirmed that about 60 calls have been received alerting about the fire and that emergency services are working at the scene.
