The teacher who made Ibero-America and Europe a common home
After eight years leading the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Spanish educator Mariano Jabonero leaves this December an institution transformed into a “very American” cooperation network, with 23 member countries, more than 600 annual projects, millions of beneficiaries, and recognized with the Princess of Asturias Award. His last battle is also a political idea: Latin America is not the periphery of the West, but one of its essential parts.
