Julieta Venegas has premiered her version of the song La niña futbolista, by composer Ignacio Silva, belonging to the children’s group Patita de perro. On the morning of this Friday, Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum gave space in her morning conference for Claudia Curiel de Icaza, from the Ministry of Culture, to present the version of this melody that honors Mexican girls but has been criticized on social media for sounding slow and for “pushing the feminist agenda.” The composition has arrangements by Yamil Rezc (from Venegas’ team) and Ericka Bañuelos for the choral interpretation.

According to Curiel de Icaza, the project was an idea of Citlali Hernández when she was in charge of the Women’s Secretariat. The video recording took place at the Churubusco Studios and was handled by Channel 22. The singer performs the melody alongside the women’s choir of the Conservatory of Music.

The Government of Mexico City presented two songs for the World Cup. In addition to La niña futbolista, the composition El juego está a la vuelta is performed in indigenous languages by María Reyna González —known as the Mixe Soprano—, Carlos CGH, and the rapper Lukas.
