Each golfer has their musical preferences just like their type of game, but the rhythm is set by Valderrama. The cork oak-lined Cadiz course is the most demanding track of the LIV season and a true test for anyone. Tyrrell Hatton and Scott Vincent lead the first test with -4, followed by Thomas Detry with -3 and, among others, Sergio García and David Puig with -2. Jon Rahm struggled: +2. Only 14 men were under par.
“A very, very complicated day, with Valderrama showing all its teeth and a very gusty wind that makes it difficult to hit the ball at the exact moment,” said Sergio García, who has 17 top-10 finishes in 18 appearances on this course and who, for example, pulled off a brilliant bunker shot on the 6th hole; “you have to be very precise because there are dangers everywhere.”

Puig, with two birdies in his last three holes, also delivered a very creditable performance.
Rahm, two over par, had a nightmare with his putt and those missed shots on the green kept him away from the top spots. “How can I be so unlucky!” he exclaimed after a deflection on the 15th hole, a par three, which resulted in his fourth bogey of the day. The Basque player comes from recording his worst result in his three seasons in the LIV last week in Korea, a 16th place that speaks of his great dominance in a competition he rules with an iron fist and that feels too small for him. In Valderrama, however, he finds a rival his match, no matter how much he chooses the music.
