Leyma Coruña and Movistar Estudiantes will play today (7:00 PM, LaLiga+) for the last promotion spot to the Liga Endesa, the top tier of Spanish basketball. The Madrid team followed suit just a few hours later and in the same pavilion against Alimerka Oviedo, whom they defeated 79-71.

The hosts smiled first, supported at all times by the audience attending the Coliseum de La Coruña. It mattered little that their team went into halftime trailing on the scoreboard. Carles Marco knew how to wake up the group at the opportune moment, and the last two quarters fell to the home side with a great performance from Brazilian point guard Caio Pacheco, who scored 25 points despite a poor start to the game. “I started badly, not feeling entirely comfortable, but with the confidence my teammates always give me, things ended up working out,” celebrated the Brazilian international on the court, who, at 27 years old and with a past at UCAM Murcia and Betis, stands as the firm standard-bearer of a team that has never played in the ACB. “These tight games are what I like, so you could say I enjoyed myself today, but we need one more victory to achieve the true goal and make history.”

Movistar Estudiantes, absent from the Liga Endesa since 2021, will try to prevent this, having defeated Oviedo last night thanks to the impeccable contribution of veteran Jayson Granger. At 36 years old, the Uruguayan point guard, formerly of Unicaja, Baskonia, Efes, and ALBA Berlín among others, energized his teammates with two consecutive three-pointers that started the collegiate comeback before halftime, a period in which the Madrid team took the lead (46-39). The Asturian team did not give up, with chances to tie until the last actions, but it was not to be.
The winner of this Sunday’s final between Leyma Coruña and Movistar Estudiantes will join Obradoiro, the regular league champion, in the Liga Endesa next season.
