The nobility and speed of the miuras allow exciting races in a clean seventh running of the San Fermín

The first provisional medical report of the seventh San Fermín running of the bulls indicates that eight runners have contusions on the skull, arms, legs, and face, a clear sign that the run has been clean, with the usual tramplings and falls, but without the goring injuries that usually occur.

A fast run, with beautiful chases especially at the end of Estafeta street, favored by the smaller number of runners, which allowed the herd to move easily and some runners to star in the race of their lives.

On the other hand, in case it is not possible during this afternoon’s bullfight, the six Miura bulls took a lap of the ring before entering the corrals of the plaza. Initially guided by a lead bull, they ran towards the correct gate when they decided to turn right, and at a walking pace they photographed the packed stands before resting after the accelerated run. Precisely because of this curious attitude of the bulls, this Monday’s run lasted 2 minutes and 34 seconds, 18 more than last year, which set the fair record.

Miura is the symbol of the San Fermín Fair. It is no coincidence that this year marks its 58th participation, the ranch that has run the streets of the old town of the Navarrese capital the most times. A historic record. Also, it is the first time in the last decade that it does not close the San Fermín by decision of the Casa de Misericordia, the institution that organizes the fair, which has not explained the reasons.

Miura is a historic and legendary cattle brand — born in 1842 and now 184 years old — synonymous with legend, risk, and fear, which has come down to us with bulls of great volume and weight — today’s range between 605 and 635 kilos — impressive in stature and horns, fierce, feared, intelligent, and unpredictable.

Despite their reputation, the Miuras behaved once again like blessed bulls, accustomed to running in the countryside and shy of the shouting and crowds of the run.

In the Santo Domingo corrals, with the lead bulls against the walls, they appeared standing, ready, grouped, in command position, and with their gaze fixed on the gate several minutes before eight in the morning. They startled at the noise of the rocket and allowed an ox to lead the steep slope that starts the run.

At high speed, with no time to greet the first runners pressed against the sidewalks, the first stretch passed with a lead bull as leader and full of strength, and the six bulls beside it, close to each other.

Thus, until Mercaderes, where a bull slipped and lost contact with the others, and until the boards of Estafeta, against which some fell face-first and even kissed the image of San Fermín, printed on the wall, to whom many runners ask for protection every morning.

The race reached its full meaning in Estafeta. Much fewer people than on previous days, a speed competition between the fittest lead bull and five bulls, who took the lead in the race, while several runners enjoyed running at full speed with the smell of the sharp horns on their backs.

Some sweeping in the alley stretch without apparent consequences and several fallen runners in the entrance tunnel who did not waste time sliding towards the gates to get out of the way of the animals’ tramplings.

Then came the lap of the ring and that record not reached due to the Miuras’ tourist zeal.

The bulls already in the corrals are the following: Merecido, 630 kilos, Mochuelo, 615 kilos, Gaditano, 635 kilos, Decoroso, 635 kilos, Famoso, 605, and Andaluz, 605 kilos.

The six will be fought this afternoon by the matadors Manuel Escribano, Pepe Moral, and Jesús Enrique Colombo.

The Miura bulls star in the penultimate race of the festivities

The legendary Seville Miura bulls star in the penultimate run of the 2026 San Fermín, breaking the tradition, for the first time since 2013, of being the ones to close the fair. Today’s run, on a Monday presumably less crowded than the weekend in Pamplona, may serve for the bulls to show their nobility. Last year they closed the fair completing the fastest route of 2025 — 2 minutes and 16 seconds — and leaving only four contused in their wake.

As usual, the brave bulls that have traveled to Pamplona show stature and weight, all above 600 kilos. In the afternoon, they will be fought in the Pamplona ring by the matadors Manuel Escribano, Pepe Moral, and Jesús Enrique Colombo.

Good morning. We start the live narration of the seventh San Fermín run 2026, this Monday, July 13.
