
A minor who was critically injured in a multiple traffic accident on Saturday in Mataró died this Sunday in the hospital. The Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) reported that five cars and a motorcycle were involved in the accident, which occurred on Via Sèrgia, formerly B-40.

As a result of the accident, which occurred at six in the afternoon on Saturday, the minor was critically injured and was transferred to Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, where he finally died this Sunday.
In the same road accident, nine other people were also injured with varying degrees of severity. Thus, another minor who was in serious condition was transferred to Sant Joan de Déu Hospital. One person in less serious condition was evacuated to Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona; another, also less serious, to Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona; three with minor injuries, to Mataró Hospital; another with minor injuries, to Granollers Hospital. Two more did not require transfer to a hospital.

The multiple collision between the five cars and a motorcycle, for reasons that are being investigated, occurred at kilometer point 1.20 of Via Sèrgia in Mataró, and two patrols of the Mossos d’Esquadra, six units of the Generalitat Firefighters, and thirteen units of the Medical Emergency System (SEM), including a medicalized helicopter, were activated.
With the death of this minor, 78 people have now lost their lives on Catalan roads this 2026, according to provisional data from the SCT.
