Influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate, popular on the internet for their misogynistic and sexist comments, will remain detained in Miami for at least two more weeks, while the judicial process continues to resolve their extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face dozens of charges of sexual assault and human trafficking. The Tate brothers’ lawyers appeared this Monday before a federal court for a hearing to which their clients did not attend.

The judge handling the case, Lauren Louis, scheduled the next hearing for August 13. It will then be determined whether the Tate brothers must face the process behind bars or in freedom, a process that could take months.
Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested on Saturday, July 18 in Miami based on new charges filed by the British justice system, where four more victims added their testimonies to the sexual exploitation case that then involved three complainants. After their arrest, the British prosecution requested their extradition to the United Kingdom.
The Tate brothers’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, said he will do everything possible for his clients, who have British and American nationality, to remain in the United States. “Of course, we oppose the extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent (…) They have never done anything wrong. They should not be extradited for crimes they did not commit,” McBride told the news agency Associated Press last week. The lawyer claimed that the extradition request is politically motivated, without providing details to support his statement.
Known for their huge presence on social media, where they promote wealth, male supremacy, and misogynistic messages, the brothers have repeatedly denied all accusations against them, while their case continues to accumulate charges and new proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service of the United Kingdom reported that Andrew Tate, 39, will be prosecuted for seven additional charges of rape, three for organizing or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three for assault causing bodily injury, and 19 more charges related to indecent images of minors and extreme pornography. In the case of Tristan Tate, 38, the accusation includes one charge of sexual assault, two of rape, and three for organizing or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. According to the British prosecution, the acts under investigation allegedly occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.
These new charges add to the 21 previous charges they were already facing. Andrew was accused of 10 crimes related to rape, injuries, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for profit, while Tristan faced 11 accusations of rape, injuries, and trafficking. After their arrest, British authorities will seek their extradition for those previous charges and the new judicial announcements.
Additionally, in June, the Romanian Prosecutor’s Office expanded an investigation opened almost four years ago against both, within an alleged network that could also involve money laundering. Despite the seriousness of the accusations, the Tates insist they are innocent and claim it is all a political persecution.
