The Gabriel García Márquez Library in Barcelona was the setting this Friday for the meeting between Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, and Jaume Collboni, mayor of the city. With much delay, they coincided in an event that served to “strengthen ties with Latin America and its literature,” emphasized the mayor, who stated that “it is very present in Barcelona.”

The Colombian government, together with photographer Mauricio Vélez, has donated a portrait of García Márquez to the city of Barcelona, about which the Colombian president said: “It has been and is revolutionary.” A representative of the Colombian delegation described the portrait as “an emotional and cultural heritage” and that, with this delivery, “cultural ties with the city of Barcelona have been strengthened.”
The Colombian president emphasized that “words are superior to weapons” and that when the former join with the crowds, they still “have more strength.” Afterwards, the president signed the city’s book, where he wrote that Barcelona “is magical like Colombia,” and that “in invention there will always be revolution.” Joan Manuel Serrat also attended the event.
A meeting that took place during a week in which the Global Progressive Mobilisation was also held.
