Isabel Díaz Ayuso has said that it should be the Ministry of the Presidency who provides the relevant explanations about the purchase of the 6.3 million penthouse that was supposedly going to serve as a temporary office for the president of Madrid while some works were carried out at her current headquarters in the last quarter of this year. The property, purchased opaquely by a public company, Planifica Madrid, cannot be used for this purpose, and the regional government has announced that it will put it up for sale once this newspaper revealed this unusual operation. Last week, Ayuso offered some explanations that are insufficient if the report on that acquisition is not presented, where it should appear who gave the order to buy it, what other options were considered, and if it is true that the main reason for the acquisition was what the government has declared.

Those explanations are now the responsibility of the Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García Martín, a person of utmost trust of Ayuso and one of those most involved in defending the president. Along with Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, the main advisor, or the secretary general of the PP of Madrid, Alfonso Serrano, he leads the wall that protects Ayuso. He does not need to receive a message like the one sent to the regional deputies, who were asked to publicly support the president in these very difficult times. Now, a great responsibility falls on his men.
However, the minister remains entrenched in the same discourse as Ayuso, which they intend to close with this argument: the penthouse, once it became known that it cannot be used as offices, will be put up for sale and that money will be allocated to the reconstruction of the towns in the Sierra affected by the fires — that move is not so simple or quick. In his view, the matter is settled. García Martín returned this Thursday to the origin of the purchase, although without adding anything relevant that reveals the mystery: “It is acquired to put it at the service of the needs that the Community of Madrid may have.”

The minister held a press conference in Robledo de Chabela, one of the towns affected by this summer’s fires — the Community of Madrid is focused on the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste. He said that Planifica Madrid “has sold and bought other properties with the purpose of putting them at the service of the Community of Madrid.” He defends that the controversy is not such: “All those who have come out looking for ghosts do not mention these issues.”
García Martín counterattacked and addressed La Moncloa. “We have a president of the Government who, in the middle of the fires, and when the city of Ceuta was being invaded, we had him at the Royal Residence of La Mareta enjoying his vacation with more security than the entire city of Ceuta. That is why they are looking for a ghost. We have given an explanation from minute one and we have done it clearly and transparently. The left and the far left need to stretch this gum because they are not capable of covering up the embarrassments of Mr. Sánchez, the sanchismo and the left of this country,” he concluded.
