The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City reported on Friday night the arrest of a man for his probable involvement in the femicide of Edith Guadalupe Valdés Salazar, 21 years old. The statement indicates that the detainee was a guard of the building where the young woman was on the day of her disappearance, as blood stains were found in the security booth of the place. This has been the most recent event in a case that has cast a shadow of suspicion over the actions of the capital’s Attorney General’s Office in the investigation of the femicide of the young woman, found dead this morning after her family reported her missing.
The family states that Edith Guadalupe disappeared after attending an interview for a job offer in an apartment on Avenida Revolución 829, in the capital. Her relatives claim that the authorities took more than a day to go to the indicated building. The woman’s body was found in a basement of that same building this Friday.
The Attorney General of Mexico City, Bertha Alcalde Luján, promised at a press conference this Friday that the line of investigation regarding a possible scheme of recruiting women for trafficking will be exhausted. However, she pointed out that there are no previous complaints related to that building. “There is an investigation to see if there was cover-up or obstruction of justice to find those responsible,” she said about the delay of the investigators in going to the place where the young woman was reported to be. For now, the authorities have identified a suspected perpetrator of the murder.
Valdés was last seen this Wednesday afternoon when the security cameras of the Benito Juárez borough recorded her getting on a ride-hailing motorcycle heading towards the Murano Towers. The authorities have confirmed that she entered the place alone and did not come out again. In that residential building in Mixcoac, she had scheduled an interview for a job position, about which the attorney general preferred not to give details to avoid hindering the investigation. However, local media such as La Silla Rota have collected testimonies from other women who narrated how they were summoned to that same place at the end of 2025 for supposed job offers of different kinds, such as nannies. They were asked to go alone and without their identifications.

When Valdez’s family noticed that the young woman did not return from her interview, they filed the complaint that same night, at one in the morning on Thursday. They informed the authorities of the last location given by the victim and where the motorcycle she used to arrive was left, demanding that they go look for her. They claimed that the building’s guard did not allow them to enter. However, the police did not go to the place until the next day, early Friday morning. A negligence by the authorities in the crucial first hours of the investigation of a missing person.
The family has publicly denounced that the deliberate delay of the authorities in going to the place was fatal and reduced the chances of rescuing Valdés alive. In addition, they have pointed to an official of the attorney general’s office who asked them for money to start the investigation. “We have not yet confirmed if there is an act of corruption, but there is an investigative police officer who has been pointed out by the family. We have located him and the investigation related to this is underway,” said the attorney general, who emphasized the seriousness of the accusations and her commitment to clarify the actions of the officials. The police internal affairs team is in charge of investigating the officer in question, who has already been removed from his duties. All the staff of the Attorney General’s Office who attended the complaint initially and who are involved in the family’s complaints will undergo internal evaluation and be removed from their positions while the investigations are carried out, Alcalde Luján promised.
When the police searched the building, floor by floor, they first found personal belongings that belonged to Valdés. Hours later, they found her body in the basement of the building under a pile of sand. The autopsy is ongoing and the cause of death is still unknown, but the attorney general has pointed out that the corpse shows injuries from blows “that are very likely related to her femicide.” Alcalde Luján has stated that the time of death is still unknown. For now, the Attorney General’s Office is interviewing the building administrator, the residents of the apartments, and also the driver of the motorcycle that transported the victim. “There is already a line of investigation in development, and the corresponding legal actions are being carried out to locate, arrest, and bring to justice the probable perpetrator,” the head emphasized. For now, they have identified a suspected perpetrator of the crime, about whom no further details have been released. The attorney general has asked the media that, if they receive more testimonies from women who were summoned to that building, to connect them with the authorities to investigate if there are more victims.
