The Civil Guard will deploy a large special security device on the occasion of the total solar eclipse that will take place next August 12, an exceptional event that will place Spain as one of the main world stages for the observation of this astronomical phenomenon and that will attract a significant influx of visitors to numerous points across the national territory.

In the operation, which has more than 24,000 personnel, different specialties will participate by land, sea, and air and will reinforce citizen security, mobility, and environmental protection at the main observation points distributed throughout the national territory. The security of more than 660 eclipse observation points located in the Civil Guard’s jurisdiction will be guaranteed, which represents 84% of those identified throughout the national territory.
To this end, the Civil Guard will reinforce its preventive and visible presence on the main communication routes, access to observation points, and natural spaces where a greater concentration of spectators is expected. The device will allow channeling and organizing traffic flows, facilitating mobility, preventing the commission of infractions and crimes, and ensuring a rapid response capacity in the event of any emergency

The device will include the participation of personnel from Citizen Security, Traffic Group, SEPRONA, Maritime Service, Air Service, GREIM, GEAS, USECIC, Fiscal and Border Units, unmanned aircraft teams (UAS and PEGASO), Mobile Citizen Service Offices, Operational Centers, and other necessary specialties, supported by land, maritime, and air means and by the technological capabilities of the Advanced Command Post for the permanent monitoring of the device’s evolution.
The Civil Guard will carry out an intense informative and preventive work to raise public awareness about the importance of enjoying the eclipse safely and minimizing the risks associated with the high concentration of people in natural spaces. Among the main recommendations are planning trips well in advance, consulting official pages with preferred observation points and exclusion zones, avoiding unnecessary travel, and always following the instructions of agents and emergency services.
