Priest Lluís Bonet i Armengol, who was rector of the Sagrada Familia between 1993 and 2018 and promoted the beatification of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, died yesterday Friday at the age of 95. Bonet, born in Barcelona in 1931, was one of the ecclesiastical figures most linked to the Sagrada Familia, where he served as rector between 1993 and 2018, driving the transformation of the temple.

In his long career, Bonet also led the parish of Sant Cristòfor for 14 years, in the Ca n’Anglada neighborhood of Terrassa (Barcelona). Precisely, the mayor of Terrassa, Jordi Ballat, who has echoed Bonet’s death on his X account, highlighted that the priest was a “very beloved person in Terrassa and especially in Ca n’Anglada,” where for years he was “a reference of commitment, service and love” towards the city of Terrassa.
Priest Lluís Bonet i Armengol was the son of architect Lluís Bonet i Garí, a disciple of Gaudí and successor of the works of the Sagrada Familia after the Civil War, according to Flama, the Christian News Agency. In fact, Lluís Bonet was a promoter of Gaudí’s beatification cause, started in the year 2000.
