A 61-year-old man dies in a semi-basement explosion in Madrid

A 61-year-old man died during the early hours of this Sunday following an explosion and subsequent fire in the semi-basement of an apartment block where he lived, located at number 312 Hacienda de Pavones street in the Moratalaz district of Madrid, according to sources from Emergencies 112 Community of Madrid. He was in the storage room. No structural damage has been detected on the upper floors of the building, but his neighbors have been confined, although none were injured.

The city firefighters dispatched ten units to the scene to extinguish the flames and rescued the victim from inside the building, whose death was later confirmed by SUMMA 112 personnel.

The medical staff provided psychological support to the victim’s family, while the operation also involved members of Samur-Civil Protection, Madrid Municipal Police, and National Police. The circumstances in which the fire occurred are yet to be clarified. The initial hypothesis is the explosion of a camping gas bottle.
