Rafa Jódar is going through a great run of form and has managed to reach at least the quarterfinals in seven of the last eight tournaments he has played since last April, as is the case in these Canadian Masters. Furthermore, after defeating Lehecka, Jódar has become the second highest-ranked player remaining in the Canadian tournament. Only American Ben Shelton, world number 10 and reigning champion, is ahead of him. The Madrid native faces Frenchman Arthur Fils, world number 24, who secured his place in the quarterfinals after beating Brit Cameron Norrie, currently ranked 37th. Thus, Jódar will seek to reach the semifinals of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career.
