“Excuse me, who are you?”, wrote investor and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in an email to Cami Clark in 2012. Four years earlier, Epstein had pleaded guilty to child prostitution. Clark intended for Epstein to invest in her “luxury porn” company, which aimed at a female audience in an industry designed for men and whose motto was “intellectually promiscuous.”

Camilla Clark is also the wife since 2022 of Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, whose IPO this fall could make the couple one of the richest in Silicon Valley. This Friday, two American media outlets, the Wall Street Journal and The Information, simultaneously published two long profiles of Clark.
Amodei’s marital status was a public mystery until a few months ago and Clark’s digital footprint on the internet is almost zero. Claude, Anthropic’s famous chatbot, also didn’t know Amodei was married and much less who Clark was: “You just saw live that Claude knew nothing about her,” the model responds about the couple. According to the Journal, “efforts have been made to suppress references to her that existed on the internet.”
Clark, born in 1979 in Reno (Nevada) and four years older than Amodei, has had a tortuous path to the current peak of AI. She married a 64-year-old architect at 20, from whom she divorced three years later. She never graduated from college, moved to San Francisco in 1999, and since then has tried to climb socially and entrepreneurially in one of the most privileged corners of the world. She even had to declare bankruptcy once. After her failure with luxury porn, she tried to launch a “social diet” app that she turned into a female health company with AI, integrating personal data from phones, credit cards, GPS, and bracelets.
Clark’s turbulent life is a demonstration of the complex combination of social skill, dangerous friendships, intelligence, and resilience needed to make a long career in today’s tech sector.
A famous literary agent, John Brockman, was the one who introduced her to Epstein in 2011: “You should have dinner with my girls, Cami and Michelle. They are in Los Angeles, raising money for a porn movie focused on the female market,” Brockman wrote. Then Clark gave him her mobile and invited Epstein to dinner. A year later was when she tried to get the money for her porn project, which Epstein initially did not remember. “I can’t do sex for TV,” was the pedophile’s final response.
Anthropic presents itself in the AI world as the cautious lab, prioritizing safety over commercial pace. Amodei has built his profile warning of the catastrophic risks of AI, to the point of confronting the Pentagon and Trump over mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. This image will now be somewhat tarnished with the revelations about his wife.
In 2014, Clark met Amodei and they started their relationship. At that time, Amodei was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, who only joined OpenAI in 2016. Clark had been the partner of Eric Schmidt, then CEO of Google, between 2011 and 2014. Schmidt, 25 years older than her and married in a well-known open relationship, was the one who introduced the couple. Schmidt was also one of the first investors in Anthropic when Amodei, his sister, and other engineers left OpenAI to create the new company.
Since then, according to American media, Clark has become one of Amodei’s main private advisers and advocates. Her social ability has brought Amodei closer to some of Silicon Valley’s major investors. Shortly after the White House banned Mythos Preview, Clark had dinner with Ivanka Trump at a conference she attended with her husband.
