Three ministers of the central Government have requested or are studying dates to appear before Congress and explain their actions regarding the crisis unleashed in Ceuta at the end of July and in these first weeks of August. The Minister of Health, Mónica García, from Más Madrid, has registered this morning in Congress a request to appear before the Health commission shortly after the PP announced a series of requests for clarifications and information about her Ministry and that the minister attend the lower house. That appearance will be on the 27th. The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations and spokesperson of the Executive, the socialist Elma Sáiz, has requested her presence in her commission on the 28th. The Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, from Izquierda Unida, also wants to appear on those days, but is still finalizing the date.

These appearances will join those that will take place from Tuesday the 25th by other ministers on the same topic and that are also already confirmed at their own request, such as those of the Interior ministers, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares; Defense, Margarita Robles; and Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, before their respective commissions. The Government separates this chain of explanations from the strategy followed by the PP in the Senate and explains that, given the seriousness of the situation, it was necessary to go to the Cortes, but with time to properly prepare those presentations.

The tension in recent days has been escalating between PP officials and the Government. The most evident has been that of the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, gradually raising the tone of the attacks, until drastically changing his discourse this Monday. In an extraordinary appearance, he censured the “almost absolute passivity” of Pedro Sánchez’s Executive. And he subtly accused Sánchez of wanting to cede sovereignty to Morocco and threatened to resort to the “judicial power” if the situation does not change.
