After a day of scorching heat, with daytime temperatures well above 40 degrees, the city of Valencia recorded the warmest night on record, with a minimum of 30.9 degrees, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency, which emphasizes that these are provisional figures and that the minimum temperature of the day may drop Thursday afternoon if storms occur.

This record of nearly 31 degrees minimum during the night has far exceeded the 27.5 degrees observed on three occasions: August 13, 2022, July 20, 2023, and July 24, 2026. Last night was an extremely hot night.
The minimum in Castellón de la Plana (29.5 degrees) is also the highest at least since 1911, surpassing a recent record from last July 21, with 27.4 degrees.
“All the thermometers in Valencia, the minimum alcohol thermometer, the digital one, and the automatic probe have recorded the same minimum temperature, 30.9 degrees Celsius,” highlights Aemet of the Valencian Community on the social network X.
Other notable minimums during the past night were 31.4 degrees in Sagunt; 30.6 in Oliva; 30.4 in Pego; 28.9 in Alicante; 28.4 in Segorbe and 28 in Orihuela, all following a Wednesday that also saw values well above 40 degrees in many points of the three provinces.
Thermometers also showed exceptional values around eight in the morning in Xàtiva, according to Aemet. This Valencian town was yesterday Wednesday the second hottest point in Spain with a maximum of 44.3 degrees, behind the neighboring town of Carcaixent, where 44.5 was reached, and ahead of Valencia (airport), with 43.7, according to agency data.

The night from Wednesday to Thursday “will go down in the history of Valencian meteorology” with a “dantesque” west wind that at midnight left widespread values between 35 and 37 degrees in much of the Valencian Community and locally 39 as in Dénia or Ràfol d’Almúnia.
According to the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet), with more than 900 measurement points spread across the Valencian Community, last midnight values above 35 degrees were recorded in almost 100 Valencian localities.

However, the high temperatures did not cause very serious incidents. Of the half dozen fires declared this Wednesday in the Valencian Community, mostly vegetation fires, only one fire in the Vall d’Albaida remains active (it has been stabilized since this morning).
And after a day of record temperatures, the Emergency Coordination Center has issued an orange alert for storms and rain, which has led the Valencia City Council to close parks and gardens, including the garden that runs through the city in the old Turia riverbed.
