A 50-year-old Spanish man died this Thursday afternoon while swimming at Llevant beach in Cunit (Tarragona), with a red flag, according to the Civil Protection of the Generalitat. The emergency phone 112 received at 13:53 the notice that the lifeguard had pulled an unconscious man out of the water and was performing resuscitation maneuvers.
The Medical Emergency System (SEM) dispatched a medicalized ambulance and a basic one, but could not do anything to save his life. At the time of the incident, the beach had surveillance and lifeguard service and a red flag was flying, which prohibits swimming.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken charge of the proceedings and the corresponding arrangements with the court. With this victim, 20 people have died on Catalan beaches since the bathing campaign officially began on June 15, according to data from the Civil Protection of the Generalitat.
