Three men with numerous police records have been arrested in Madrid by the National Police for carrying out a burglary at a café in a town in the Madrid region, from which they took the safe, and when stopped by officers in the Cañada Real, they staged a wild escape at full speed along up to five roads in the region in a car that, to make matters worse, they had stolen days earlier. The thieves “even drove in the wrong direction” before being intercepted and arrested at Terminal 4 of Barajas airport, explains a spokesperson for the Superior Headquarters to this newspaper.

The events occurred on August 19, around a quarter to five in the morning, in the Madrid district of Villa de Vallecas, “when the officers went to intervene in an assault in the street,” details the same source. The 091 emergency number had received a report that two people had been beaten by others in the Valdemingómez area, within the Cañada Real.
During the intervention, a vehicle appeared in the area that the officers found suspicious and they signaled it to stop. Instead of stopping, the driver of the car, a black Seat Ibiza, “sped up sharply and fled.” During their wild escape, the officers pursued them along five roads in the community: the A-3, M-50, M-31, M-45, and R-3. “They drove very recklessly, at full speed, and even drove in the wrong direction, posing great danger to drivers and pedestrians who had to dodge them,” details the spokesperson.
The chase ended at Terminal 4 of Adolfo Suárez Barajas airport. The driver was arrested while fleeing on foot after getting out of the vehicle, while the other two occupants were removed from inside the car by the officers. During the vehicle inspection, the officers found “a safe with apparent signs of being forced open, tools, gloves, and a starter device.”
The car had been stolen a few days earlier and the safe came from a forced robbery at a café, committed the same night in a town in Madrid. “The car theft was reported in Villalvilla a week earlier, on the 5th, while the café was assaulted that same night in Collado Villalba,” specifies the spokesperson. Several police vehicles were also damaged during the intervention.
The three detainees are accused of the crimes of burglary, theft/unauthorized use of a vehicle, traffic offenses, document forgery, and damage, and have been brought before the courts. All three are Spanish. The oldest detainee, 48 years old, has “close to 50 police records for almost everything,” from similar incidents to drug trafficking. Another detainee, 39 years old, also has “quite a few records for similar crimes” to those he is now allegedly accused of, as does the youngest of the three, 33 years old.
