A 22-year-old young man died this Saturday after falling into the water while fishing with others between Zurriola beach and the Monpás point, in San Sebastián, according to the Department of Security of the Basque Government.

Emergency services received the alert at 18:40, after the young man fell into the sea and disappeared in the water.
Emergency, Firefighters, Red Cross, and Ertzaintza personnel moved to the area and participated in the search and rescue operation. The young man’s body was found in the water and firefighters took charge of bringing him ashore. Once there, medical personnel confirmed his death.

Iván Cruz, who was on Zurriola beach at the time of the incident, witnessed part of the emergency operation. “We started to see a lot of movement from lifeguards, jet skis, firefighters, ambulances, police, and a helicopter,” he recounts.
Cruz recorded from the beach the mobilization of the teams towards Monpás point and says that, about an hour later, he saw how they transported the young man to the shore and how emergency services tried to resuscitate him for more than half an hour.
