The PSOE of Leganés will have its primaries for the mayoralty with a single candidate. Councilor Sara Oviedo Vallés, who was seen as the only rival to Miguel Recuenco, the general secretary of her party, has decided not to submit her candidacy. The socialist states that it is “a deeply considered decision” and attributes it to the lack of “conditions of trust, respect, and political loyalty” in her party.

Sara Oviedo had maintained her aspirations to be the PSOE’s standard-bearer in the fourth largest city in the Community of Madrid, even after she was removed from her position as deputy spokesperson. On that occasion, she revealed her disagreement with Recuenco, whom she complained about for breaking prior agreements to create a joint list.
In the statement where she announced her resignation, Oviedo Vallés referred to that event as “a turning point that evidenced the deterioration of internal relations.” She also stated that her party needs to “recover spaces for dialogue, participation, and understanding” in Leganés.
With her decision, the councilor has cleared the way for Miguel Recuenco, who confirmed his participation in the primaries on Friday, September 4. In fact, the party’s general secretary in the region already appears as “proclaimed candidate” on the list released by Pilar Sánchez Acera, the PSOE’s Organization Secretary in Madrid, this Monday.
