Argentine footballer Leo Messi has reached a preliminary agreement with the current owners of Eldense, from the Second Division, to become the majority shareholder of the club, according to sources close to the operation who informed the news agency Efe.

When the purchase is completed, it will be the first time the Argentine footballer becomes the owner of a professional club in Spain. The acquisition is expected to be formalized in the coming days, once the final legal and contractual procedures are completed, including the thorough audit process. Additionally, it will be subject to the mandatory authorization of the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
Eldense has not yet won an official match this season. It currently occupies the third-to-last position (20th) in the Second Division standings with two points after losing to Almería and Leganés and drawing against Cádiz and Mallorca.
Messi, who plays for Inter Miami of the American MLS, also bought last April the Unió Esportiva Cornellà, a Catalan club that plays in Tercera RFEF, the fifth tier of Spanish football.
After losing the World Cup final to Spain on July 19, Messi announced in August that he was leaving the Argentine national team. It was a few weeks after his father, Jorge, passed away.
