Two minors under 16 years old and of Spanish nationality have been seriously and slightly injured, respectively, early Monday morning after being hit by a Cercanías train near La Navata station, in Galapagar (Madrid), a spokesperson for the 112 of the Community of Madrid told this newspaper. According to the initial investigations, carried out by the Civil Guard, the two minors were walking alongside the tracks when they were hit by the train.

They are two friends who live either in Galapagar or in Torrelodones and who, according to sources close to the investigation told EL PAÍS, had gone out for a drink, had been drinking, and decided to return home walking next to the track because doing so through the streets takes much longer and the track is, on the other hand, straight and gets you there much sooner. According to the young people, they had done it before, but it was the first time they did it at night.
One of them was run over by the train and is in very serious condition, while the other fell to the ground and has a head wound. The more seriously injured is “polytraumatized” and has been transferred in a Summa 112 ICU to the Puerta de Hierro hospital in Madrid, detailed the 112 spokesperson, who added that the other young man had a head wound and was taken to the Collado Villalba hospital to have it stitched.

The first to come to the aid of the young people were the security guards at the Renfe station. The 112 received the call from Adif at 00:20 and mobilized agents from the Civil Guard and Local Police, as well as two crews from the Community of Madrid Firefighters and medical personnel.
At the scene, the responders found the two minors approximately 200 meters from the platform of La Navata in Galapagar, a municipality of more than 36,000 inhabitants located 38 kilometers northwest of Madrid city.
Upon the arrival of the firefighters, according to a video by Luis Bustos, chief supervisor of this body, the Summa medical personnel were already attending to the young people and helped stabilize the more seriously injured and transfer him “about 200 meters” to the ambulance. Passengers traveling on the affected train were transferred to another train arranged by Renfe.
