Crime in the Community of Madrid has increased by 2.6% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2025. The main areas of growth are crimes against sexual freedom, drug trafficking, and also injuries and attempted homicides, which are the most serious assaults. The Government Delegate, Francisco Martín, has analyzed the statistics published quarterly by the Ministry of the Interior and has expressed concern about the greater presence of knives on the streets, something against which he assured efforts will be focused.

The increase in reports of sexual assaults is a figure observed in every report, and both the ministry and the delegation attribute it to cases now coming to light that were previously hidden, as greater awareness leads to more reporting. Specifically, crimes against sexual freedom increased by 9.3%, rising from 1,578 to 1,724.
Regarding the increase in reports of drug trafficking, the delegate pointed out that it is due to greater police action on this issue, which is not only a security problem but also a social one. So far this year, as many drug dens, homes used to sell narcotics, have been dismantled as in all of 2025. The number of reports for this crime has risen from 2,034 to 2,655 across the region. Focusing on the capital, there have been 2,164 reports in the first six months of the year, 36.6% more than in the same period of 2025.
Just this Thursday, the National Police carried out a major operation in the Community of Madrid in which they dismantled 16 drug dens and arrested 19 people, in addition to seizing various types of drugs. Martín detailed the operation which involved the “seizure of abundant substances,” without yet specifying the amount that was confiscated. The dismantling of the drug dens took place both in the city of Madrid, specifically in Vicálvaro, Villaverde, and the Latina district, as well as in other municipalities in the region, such as Pinto, Fuenlabrada, Leganés, and Móstoles, in addition to the town of Seseña in Toledo.
Attempted homicides have risen by 49.2%. This crime refers to all those assaults, for example brawls involving weapons, in which the victims do not die but are seriously injured. The Government Delegate expressed concern about the greater presence of knives on the streets of the region, and for this reason has called for collaboration from other administrations to “work to respond to this reality.”
The good news is that indicators related to property crimes, such as burglaries in homes, businesses, and other facilities, as well as thefts, have decreased by 3.4% and 2.3%, respectively. However, vehicle thefts have increased by 6.1% to 3,512 reports.
According to the Interior Ministry’s report, cybercrime, with a total of 40,219 criminal offenses, shows an increase of 4.5% over 2025. The largest percentage of these crimes are computer frauds, with 35,286 criminal offenses, representing 87% of all cybercrime and an increase of 7.6% over the same period in 2025. However, the rest of cybercrimes have fallen by 13.5%, dropping from 5,701 to 4,933 from one first semester to another.
Crime in the city of Madrid has also increased by 1.1%, with more than 99,000 reports in the first half of the year. In the capital, attempted homicides have increased by 52.8%. Riot-related crimes exceed a thousand and have risen by 4.7%, and crimes against sexual freedom have also increased by 7.5%.
Robberies with violence and intimidation have fallen by 1.9%, while thefts in homes, businesses, and other facilities have grown by 3.8% to more than 3,000 incidents. Specifically, burglaries in homes are around 2,000, 13.9% more.
The Government Delegate has stated he is “aware that there are neighborhoods in the city where a multidisciplinary approach is required to improve security data.” Martín announced that this Thursday a call was sent for the formation of tripartite tables in Parque Paraíso in San Blas, Lavapiés, and Peña Gorbea in Puente de Vallecas. “I trust that this time they will be supported by the regional and municipal governments of the capital,” he emphasized.
