“You are very beautiful but I’m going to fix you up a bit”: the 14 pearls from Rosalía’s confessionals

La Perla has served Rosalía to create a social confessional full of heartbreak stories and sentimental anecdotes with an unexpected ending. The fervor for the song’s lyrics and the evident message of catharsis, which it makes no attempt to hide, has spread to her tour thanks to these famous and viral confessionals, which precede the performance of this song at concerts and during which the melody is heard in the background. She has already done 14; the one in Milan was missed, as it could not be performed because she had to leave the stage early due to a health problem. Eight of them have been in Spain, and all have dominated the conversation on social media and in the streets thanks to their guests and the content they have revealed.

Two days before her Lux Tour continues through Europe with stops in Amsterdam or London, we review the Catalan artist’s confessionals on this tour.

1. Lyon. Ángel and the revenge served cold

The first victim was Ángel, the only anonymous fan who went on stage to confess. He recounted that when he had been with his ex-partner for five years, he started noticing her coming home late with a different smell: “I asked her, but she told me it was taxi perfume, so what I did was open a fake Instagram profile. I needed to know what she was doing. I started playing with him, teasing him, and arranged to meet him at a restaurant. The surprise was that his mother accompanied him. The three of us had dinner as if nothing was wrong, and I really enjoyed watching his face. He paid for dinner, and I made a good smoke bomb. I broke up with him and haven’t heard from him since.” And that’s where Rosalía’s usual closing phrase for this moment on the tour was established: “You met what is known as a good ‘perla’ (a scoundrel).”

2. Paris. Lyas, the fashion influencer and an unexpected payment

The French influencer Lyas, with almost half a million followers on Instagram, was the Catalan artist’s first guest in the French capital. According to S Moda in an article, he has made a fortune (viral and economic) by bringing anonymous people together to watch fashion shows via streaming in bars in Paris, Milan, or London. In the confessional, he explained how a few years ago he met a heterosexual guy he really liked and ended up kissing: “I asked him if he wanted to keep dancing, but he said: ‘No, let’s go to your place’.” With humor, he explained how, after having sex with him, the other person got dressed and told him he didn’t want to stay and that he had to pay him 50 euros at that moment.

3. Paris. Salome Topuria and the catastrophic casting

The Georgian actress Salome Topuria was in charge of entering the confessional on the second night in Paris. She told a story that happened to her in 2020 when she did a casting for a film in the middle of the pandemic with an actor she had to work with, but “who had no talent.” Finally, they called her to tell her that she hadn’t gotten the role, but the guy had because he had a very good presence. They asked for his contact, but she, as revenge, told them that he couldn’t work because he had fallen off a balcony.

4. Zurich. Sandra and the need to sleep with another woman

The story that headlined Rosalía’s fifth concert on the tour was told by a girl named Sandra. She explained that recently a man she had met at Sala Apolo in Barcelona had told her he wanted to be her partner, that he wanted to be good, and she believed him. And that same week she had gone to his house and, while taking off her makeup, found a lipstick. She confessed that she asked him what it meant, and he told her he had the need to sleep with another woman.

6. Madrid. Esty Quesada and the false promise

On her first visit to the Spanish capital, Esty Quesada, who had recently interviewed her on her podcast, starred in the confessional. “I come to confess a tragedy,” said the youtuber and actress as soon as she started, revealing, step by step, her romantic setback: “I met a man some time ago and he told me ‘suck my nipples, I don’t feel anything.’ And I still continued.” She added that another day she explained to him how she didn’t want to have children because she believed she was sterile, and he insisted that she get a fertility test. They continued to get to know each other, and he told her she was the love of his life and that he couldn’t live without her. And how he finally confessed that he did that with all his friends.

7. Madrid. Metrika and her ex’s surprise wedding

The second guest in Madrid was the artist Metrika, who told Rosalía that she had suffered infidelity from an ex-partner, who had gone on Erasmus, and about whom she discovered he was going to marry someone else. “I’ve brought you a little ‘perla’ (a juicy story/scoundrel)…” she said as soon as she started talking about this relationship, which had lasted two years and in which she had full trust. The one known on social media as “founding mother” ended up stating that she ended up hooking up with the fiancée.

8. Madrid. Aitana and Sebastián Yatra’s warning

Aitana was the third guest in the confessional in Madrid. During the concert, the host put her guest in her particular confessional, and she recounted before some 17,000 people how her relationship with Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra ended. “I’ve been with many people, many,” Aitana began to tell, to the audience’s laughter. “With athletes, with actors, with singers… With everyone, very famous and with a lot of money, because I don’t earn anything, so I need them,” Aitana enumerated on stage in a joking tone. “But there’s one in particular I have to tell you about. I’m going to be honest… It was very good, it wasn’t bad,” she admitted. “But it got to a point where I said: ‘I don’t know what’s happening.’ Everything was going very well. A strong, normal infatuation, not crazy either. But it’s true that when we were about to reach a year, it ended.” And then the young woman told her what he had said: “He told me: ‘Do you know what happens? After a year, I can become unfaithful.’”

9. Madrid. Shannis and the name confusion

The last well-known face to join the confessional in Madrid was the influencer Shannis, who explained that she fell in love with her makeup artist, but it turned out that the relationship was unrequited. “You can’t be with the person you work with. He was hooking up with half of Madrid and called me by a different name because he got confused,” she confessed.

10. Lisbon. Marcelo Wang and his phone

The influencer Marcelo Wang dared to make a confession about a night he experienced in Barcelona with a guy. “I was left alone in the club and a guy came to talk to me, and I told him ‘I’m very hot,’ the only phrase I know how to say in Spanish,” he explained. He then recounted that this guy suggested they go somewhere more intimate. Wang ended up taking him to his friend’s house without his friend knowing and made him something to eat while he smoked on the balcony: “When I went out to call him, he had disappeared, and I realized he had stolen my phone and my wallet.”

11. Lisbon. Footballer Kika Nazareth’s two girls

The Portuguese Barça footballer explained that once, while with a partner, she flirted with another friend of hers: “They started talking, but she didn’t tell me, and I found out they were together, flirting and dating.” The audience lamented, but she added more details to this story: “She was hooking up with me, kept flirting, and we kept talking jokingly. And it’s important to say that some time ago I had also hooked up with the other one.” Rosalía concluded with a forceful: “You liked both of them.”

12. Barcelona. Yolanda Ramos and a failed depilation

The surprise guest on the first night in the Catalan city was actress Yolanda Ramos. “Feel free and tell me everything,” Rosalía said, “we have to talk about a bastard, right?” Ramos replied. And after Rosalía’s affirmative, Yolanda proceeded to talk about a man who asked to depilate her: “You’re very beautiful, but I’m going to tidy you up a bit.” Ramos ended up accidentally drinking her own hairs when she asked for a glass of water, which he had previously used for depilation: “I ate all my hairs.”

For Rosalía’s second night at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, there was music, performances, and confessions. The Catalan artist invited Álvaro Lafuente, better known by his stage name, Guitarricadelafuente, to her famous confessional. Sitting opposite Rosalía, the singer opened up to talk about a very personal experience: his first relationship with another boy. “We had been talking for three weeks, and I said: ‘I have to pull this bandage off now. Because, if not, I was going to come out of the closet at 40 years old.’” The Benicàssim native recounted how this guy, from Seville, ended up dismissing him by telling him he “lacked street smarts” and how he approached the artist again when he became famous to ask for a free ticket to his concert.

14. Barcelona. Bad Gyal and a senseless request

The one called to confess on Friday night was the Barcelona singer Bad Gyal. “He asked me if I hadn’t thought about getting breasts,” she explained about a man with whom she had a relationship that didn’t work from the beginning. She replied by asking if he hadn’t thought that one doesn’t comment on other people’s bodies: “He didn’t use his brain much, it was the size of a walnut,” she continued, laughing.

15. Barcelona. Rojuu is the ‘perla’ (the scoundrel)

The singer Rojuu was the last protagonist of Rosalía’s confessional in Barcelona. A very special one because its protagonist explained that in this case, he was the ‘perla’ (scoundrel). “I met the love of my life, and the situation became too much for me. The only tool I had was to leave her,” he recounted. He added that he later realized that what he was looking for outside, he already had within, and that when he saw she had found someone new, he fought for her, but it was no use, and that led him to fall into drugs and excesses.
