Cristina Pardo and La Sexta have built their television careers in parallel. When the channel launched in 2006, Antonio García Ferreras trusted her, she left radio and he signed her for La Sexta Noticias, where she later stood out as the journalist covering the PP. Now, after 20 years of relationship, the 48-year-old from Navarre is leaving the channel that has seen her grow professionally, and where she hosted Más vale tarde since 2021, but she will remain in the group, as she will move on to present a prime time program in the new season of Antena 3.
“I’m not going to cry,” she said in her announcement this afternoon on the program while confirming that she will stay until the end of the season: “I’ve been here for 20 years. I’m leaving with many friends. And I want to thank Ferreras. I am very grateful to the company, because it has always responded well. And I hope to live up to the opportunity.”
The only thing known about the new program, which will address “key issues on the news agenda,” is that “this new format will reinforce the channel’s commitment to current affairs, analysis, and also entertainment content in prime time,” announces Atresmedia, which has trusted her for this exchange of channels. The project is in the pre-production phase, and meanwhile Pardo, who has also become famous for her iconic laugh, will continue to collaborate on the current affairs panel of El hormiguero. The company confirms that Iñaki López will remain alone presenting La Sexta’s afternoons from September. “I learned everything I know here,” Pardo said in her farewell.
Pardo has been a face so linked to the channel that she even hosted the New Year’s Eve chimes nine times, from 2017 to 2020 with López and from 2021 to 2025 with Dani Mateo, until Atresmedia decided to also double those of Cristina Pedroche and Alberto Chicote on its secondary channel. Her first steps as a solo presenter were as Ferreras’ substitute on Al rojo vivo from Holy Week 2013, and she became a kind of second in La Sexta’s morning current affairs debate. In 2017, the journalist, who wrote the book about her time with the PP Los años que vivimos PPeligrosamente, presented the reports Malas compañías: Historias anónimas de la corrupción on the channel, and from 2018 to 2021 she hosted the magazine Liarla Pardo on weekends, after which she went on to replace Mamen Mendizabal on Más vale tarde.
This change is part of a series of recent shifts at La Sexta, which has just premiered Marc Giró’s Cara al Show and is about to launch Las noches de Aimar, with Aimar Bretos. In addition, in the last year, the channel lost two of the most famous news anchors who had also been with the company since its inception: Cristina Villanueva and Cristina Saavedra. Pardo, however, will not go far and will remain linked to the company, even if it is on “the channel of the bitches,” as López joked with her this afternoon.
