The actor from ‘The White Lotus’ Walton Goggins declares his love for Madrid: “I am going to miss this place, this food, this culture, and these people very much”

“Leaving today… tears in my eyes. I’m going to miss this place, this food, this culture, and these people so much,” writes actor Walton Goggins (Birmingham, Alabama, 54 years old) in a post on his Instagram account this Thursday as a farewell after his time in Madrid. The actor, now mainly known for starring in one of the storylines of the third season of the successful The White Lotus, explains that he has had numerous encounters with people who were surprised to see him around the capital and that have ended up going viral. “Sitting right here… all hours of the day… I’ve seen lovers love, lovers fight, the rage of the early twenties, elderly people walking their dogs, children on their way to school, a guy on a Harley who passes every morning playing Bob Seger…,” begins his emotional travel diary, which he accompanies with a carousel of photos from his stay in Madrid.

In the images he has shared with his two million followers, he shows the streets around him and can be seen trying restaurants, enjoying good company on terraces, taking a walk through Retiro Park, showing some of the gifts he has received during his stay in Madrid, and posing with actress Chloë Grace Moretz. Both actors are part of the cast of the film Miser, directed by Wade Eastwood, which may be a sign that they were in the city filming. A few days ago, the actress also shared a carousel of photos on her Instagram with the message “Spain, I love you.”

“They have given me glazed donuts, a bottle of wine, a wedge of manchego, a belt buckle, cufflinks, a script… Even the police showed up and gave me a velcro patch from their uniform… and conversations… daily conversations with so many people downstairs,” the American actor continues explaining.

In his love declaration to Madrid, he remembers a song by George Strait, which he says his mother and he usually recall and whose lyrics basically say that he knows he is leaving here a better man. “Madrid… You have made me that. I don’t know why I was given the chance to live this life… But I know God, whoever that is, and I couldn’t have chosen a more grateful guy to live this,” he concludes while thanking this city “for being so lovely.” In his message, he also takes the opportunity to say goodbye with a “see you next time” to the restaurants Los 33, Le Clan, La Parra, and Em Sherif, places that, he assures, have always saved him a seat.

There have been multiple videos shared on social media of his presence in Madrid. Goggins at El Rastro, on the balcony of his house. And also on his social networks, where he has made clear how much he has enjoyed his time in the city. “I just got off work. I drink and smoke and sit on my balcony daily. I’ve had countless conversations like this in the last 2 months… people walking by, saying ‘hello’. I love this country. I love the people. I love the food. I love the music. I love the language and I love Spain,” he expressed a few weeks ago also on Instagram.

Known for his roles in Justified and Fallout, Goggins was one of the revelations of the latest season of The White Lotus alongside actress Aimee Lou Wood. Both played the most celebrated couple of the third season. After the series, rumors about their distancing began to circulate when someone noticed they had unfollowed each other on social media. According to a later interview in Vanity Fair, they were more independent during filming, shared more moments alone, and Wood was helping Goggins, who was returning to Thailand after having been there seeking some peace following his wife’s suicide in 2004. In other words, the experience was so intense for both that they simply decided to give each other some space afterward: “I needed to get away from everyone,” Goggins explained at the time.
