The premiere of the series Diana: The Unheard Truth is scheduled for August 31, 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the princess’s death in a car accident in Paris. However, the echoes of what is to come are already causing a stir. The docuseries, divided into three episodes, will focus on five hours of previously unreleased audio recordings of Diana of Wales, including some about the breakdown of her marriage to then Prince Charles of England — now the British king —.
The recordings were made in 1991 by Dr. James Colthurst, a close friend of the then Princess of Wales. The tapes were secretly taken out of Kensington Palace and handed over to writer Andrew Morton, whose resulting biography, Diana: Her True Story, published in 1992, changed the course of British royal history. In the years since Diana’s death, less than an hour of these recordings has been publicly heard. Love Monday TV has gained full access to the archive in collaboration with Morton and Colthurst, who also appear in the series alongside editor Michael O’Mara. The three review the circumstances under which Morton’s book was produced, including the risks Lady Di took and the intense scrutiny all three faced during the process.
The recordings capture Diana of Wales’s account of life within the royal family, her ambitions to lead a life independent of the Crown, and her predictions about the future of Charles of England and Camilla — now Queen of England, married to the monarch since 2005. She also shares thoughts about her children, Princes William and Harry, as well as about Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor — now ex-prince, after his brother stripped him of the title due to his ties with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Other participants in the documentary include her schoolmate Delissa Needham — making her first on-camera appearance — her hairdresser Sam McKnight, astrologer Penny Thornton, dancer Wayne Sleep, her former bodyguard Ken Wharfe, royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter, photographer Kent Gavin, and Daily Mail journalist Richard Kay.

The network has promised that this docuseries will change the public perception of Diana, showing a “resilient, insightful young woman whom the public can relate to, who is under the brightest spotlights in the world and faces challenges with grace, self-awareness, and determination.” Viewers will also be able to hear her “contagious humor and mischievous laugh” and discover how “accurate she was in predicting the future.” “Most importantly, we will hear her dreams about a future that could have been, a new chapter in which Charles rides off into the sunset with Camilla, leaving Diana free to forge her own path,” the press release about the docuseries previews.
“In life, when Diana spoke, the world listened. These recently discovered recordings offer a unique opportunity to hear Diana’s perspective once again. It is time to recognize her legacy as an example of empowerment, courage, and love,” the producers say. According to them, her words offer a fuller portrait: a woman who faced pressure, redefined her role, and moved forward with conviction. “She invites the public to know Diana not only through what happened to her but also through how she chose to react,” they say. And to whet the appetite, they reveal: “While speaking, she made three astonishing revelations: her suicide attempts, her eating disorder — bulimia nervosa — and her husband’s love for a woman named Camilla.”
