Belén Rueda recalls in ‘La noche de Aimar’ the executive who told her she didn’t have “enough boobs” to be on television

Belén Rueda has been working in front of the camera for 40 years, first as a television presenter and then as an actress. This Wednesday, during the broadcast of La noche de Aimar on La Sexta, the Alicante native stated that she has encountered and continues to encounter many “macho” and “chauvinist” men throughout her career, following a question from Aimar Bretos. The actress recalled to the journalist the moment when an executive told her that she didn’t have “enough boobs” to be in her television job.

“I was left speechless, I was very young, just over 20 years old, more innocent. Any [bad] word I say would be putting myself in the place where he put himself,” explained Belén Rueda. “Right now I might say to him: ‘you are absolutely right,’ I would leave and report him. You shouldn’t warn because then the tsunami comes back doubled, but you have to find people who also support you because dealing with this alone is not easy,” the actress argued.

“Ask any woman of our generation if she hasn’t suffered abuse. Not one. Not in our profession, but in general. This generation has had to do important work and older women, who are the ones who have paved the way for us, have had to do very powerful emotional and mental work to talk about certain things they were told to keep quiet about,” Rueda commented to Bretos. “My daughters corrected me in the way I spoke. And I didn’t take it badly. Now, terrible things are coming out. I have read things that give me goosebumps. And we have to be careful that all of this doesn’t get diluted.”

Rueda also reacted to the words dedicated to her by her colleague and friend Emilio Aragón. “If I have learned anything by your side, it is that your talent, which is enormous, is only surpassed by your way of caring for those close to you. An exceptional colleague and a friend,” said the producer and television executive.
