Since 2022, Barcelona has allowed stores to open on Sundays and holidays during the months of highest tourist pressure. Starting this Sunday 17, until September 15, shops will be able to open on Sundays and holidays, with a restricted schedule from 12 to 8pm. This regulation does not include the entire city, but only those parts included in the ZGAT (the Tourist Zone for Commercial Opening), which has been expanded according to the city council.
This zone is made up of areas 1 and 2 of the Special Urban Plan for Tourist Accommodations (PEUAT), which include 8 districts, although not all neighborhoods are included in all of them. In some cases, only stores on certain streets will open.
- Ciutat Vella and Eixample: all neighborhoods.
- Sants Monjuïc: Sants and Hostafrancs in full; areas of Poble-Sec and La Font de la Guatlla.
- Les Corts: only the neighborhood with the same name as the district will open.
- Sarrià-Sant Gervasi: Sant Gervasi – Galvany in full, partial opening of Putxet and Farró.
- Gracia: La Vila de Gràcia, El Camp d’en Grassot i Gràcia nova and La Salut in full; Vallcarca and Penitents partially.
- Horta-Guinardó: only Baix Guinardó.
- Sant Martí: including the neighborhoods of El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou, Vila Olímpica del Poblenou, Poblenou, Diagonal Mar and Front Marítim del Poblenou.
Establishments in these areas must display the new schedule so that it is visible to the public, although all those service-providing businesses — such as hair salons — will not have to adapt to the time restrictions.

The extension of opening on Sundays and holidays was born from the agreement between Fundació Barcelona Comerç, Barcelona Oberta, PIMEC Comerç, Foment del Treball, the National Association of Large Distribution Companies (ANGED), CCOO and UGT, with the support of the Barcelona City Council and the approval of the Generalitat, and this Sunday faces its fourth campaign.
