The channel 2Cat breaks audience records with its best July in 21 years, reaching a 4.5% average share thanks to the Catalan broadcasts of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, according to RTVE reported this Friday. This July, the audience increased by 28.6% compared to June and the channel reached 4,086,000 unique viewers, certifying the best monthly record for La 2 in Catalonia since the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The FIFA World Cup football matches have been the main driver of the figures, as the broadcasts registered an average share of 10.7%. These data placed the television channel as the second most-watched channel in Catalonia during the World Cup broadcasts and the first in Catalan, doubling TV3’s audience in the same time slot.
During the broadcast of the tournament final, on July 19, the channel reached an average daily share of 8.6%, the best daily result in its history, and at the golden minute it reached more than half a million viewers, a 16.3% share.
Good results beyond football
Likewise, La 2Cat has valued that the good audience results also go beyond football, highlighting that, thanks to its own programming, July has become the month with the most hours of broadcasting in Catalan – close to 60% -, registering a 5.1% share.
Regarding news programming, the midday newscast breaks a new audience record with its broadcast on La 1, La 2Cat and Canal 24h, reaching a monthly share of 15.2% and nearly 160,000 average viewers, the best figures since February 2012.
Some of the most-watched programs were Pla Seqüència, presented by Jordi Basté, which registered a 5.8% share; Cuina brutal, with 4.8%; L’any que vas néixer and Rescat, both with 4.4%; and Punts de vista, with 2.9%.
On the other hand, the channel has also pointed out that the increase in audiences has been reflected in RTVE Catalunya’s digital content found on RTVE Play, reaching more than 280,000 visitors, 234% more than July 2025.
