The tension between Junts and Sumar has been brewing for days and has come to a boil over Junts’ unwillingness to support the housing aid plan that Sumar intends, which would have to be channeled through the approval of a royal decree, with a vote in Congress scheduled for April 28. The refusal to vote in favor is “firm,” Junts has stated, and without the collaboration of the Catalan independence party, the decree is doomed to fail.
This Thursday, during an interview on Onda Cero, journalist Carlos Alsina reminded Díaz that on other occasions she has said that Junts is a “racist and classist” project, to which the vice president responded that it has been “always.” Along the same lines, she insisted that Junts, despite supporting Pedro Sánchez’s investiture, feels more comfortable alongside the PP and Vox when it comes to addressing issues like controlling housing prices.

Former President of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont has personally taken on replying to the vice president and Minister of Labor, reproaching her for “insulting Junts.” Puigdemont also mentioned that, at the time, Junts facilitated the formation of the government coalition. “Next time, ask the PP for votes to be vice president and maybe you’ll live better,” Puigdemont said in a post on the social network X. The former Catalan president reproached Díaz for showing “disrespect” and “lack of rigor,” as well as “moral baseness” based on “manipulation exactly like Donald Trump does.”
Junts has decided to suspend relations with Sumar until their leader retracts the statements. According to sources from Junts’ leadership, suspending relations with Sumar means abandoning all governmental and parliamentary relations with the formation.
