Olmedo López pleads guilty to participating in the UNGRD corruption scheme

The former director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) Olmedo López has pleaded guilty this Wednesday to participating in the corruption scheme of that entity, where he served as chief until February 2024. López, a left-wing politician and one of the key witnesses in the largest embezzlement that occurred in the Government of Gustavo Petro, has acknowledged his responsibility in the crimes of embezzlement by appropriation and conspiracy to commit a crime, after two pre-agreements he had underway with the Attorney General’s Office failed. The sentence against him will be made public next week, on May 26.
