Jonathan Andic, son of Mango founder Isak Andic, announced this Tuesday in an open letter that he is temporarily stepping down from the vice presidency of the fashion company, although he will retain his responsibilities in “family, business, and social projects,” to focus on defending his innocence. Andic was arrested exactly one week ago, last Tuesday, May 19, accused of homicide in the investigation that a court in Martorell is conducting to clarify the circumstances of his father’s death, who died after falling off a cliff in the Montserrat mountain in Collbató (Barcelona) during a hike in which only the two of them were present.
In the letter, Jonathan Andic states that he takes this step “with sincerity and humility” and “from the pain, helplessness, and frustration” of facing “a narrative of alleged guilt that does not correspond to reality.” Andic explains that his father’s death occurred under “deeply painful circumstances”: “To that grief has been added the fact of having to live with the most serious, unjust, and unfounded accusation that can be made against a person.”
Andic continues his letter by highlighting the love he felt for his father. “I want to express, from the heart, that I have loved and deeply love my family, and in a very special way, my father. We shared many happy, endearing, and loving moments together. As happens in many families, we also had difficult and complex moments, which we overcame with great effort, generosity, and help. The love, respect, and bond we have always felt are part of our family’s DNA, as those who know us well are aware,” states the founder’s son.
After the founder’s death on December 14, 2024, speculation began around the investigation, and in June 2025 Jonathan Andic already stepped down from his executive roles in the company, where he was director of the men’s line Mango Man. Despite this, he remained vice president of Mango and a member of the company’s Board of Directors. His arrest a week ago, along with the detention order accusing him of homicide, put all the spotlight on the company and the possibility of Andic continuing in his positions. Mango’s ethical and conduct codes do not mention any possible judicial proceedings involving members of its board.
However, a week after his arrest, Isak Andic’s son has decided to leave these non-executive positions to focus on preparing his defense. Sources close to Mango’s board indicate that this move demonstrates responsibility, generosity, and respect for Mango’s project and legacy.
Andic therefore leaves his positions as vice president and board member of Mango, posts that will remain vacant since, according to company sources, the move is “temporary.” The company responded to Andic’s decision with a statement in which the company’s chairman and CEO, Toni Ruiz, conveys to the founder’s son “his utmost respect, understanding, and support and reinforces the importance of Mango’s business project.” “The company is at the best moment in its history. We have the full support and long-term vision of our shareholders, a clear, unique, and differentiating strategy, and a corporate governance model aligned with the highest standards,” Ruiz states.

According to the statement, the Board members “unanimously endorse Toni Ruiz’s words and join the Andic family in their support for Jonathan. They also express their full conviction that the judicial process will be resolved favorably and trust that this will happen as soon as possible.”
“Unjust and unfounded” accusation
Jonathan Andic is out on bail after posting the one million euros imposed by the Martorell judge following his arrest. Andic appeared before the judge and only answered questions from his legal representation, which is already preparing an appeal against the detention order issued by the court’s presiding judge.
In the open letter, addressed to the company’s staff, Jonathan Andic denounces that the homicide accusation is “unjust and unfounded,” and that the narrative the judge presents in her order has a “decontextualized and distorted” view. “A public narrative has been constructed with a partial, decontextualized, and distorted view, which has generated a perception of guilt unrelated to reality. I know that dismantling it will require time, effort, and intense dedication,” the letter continues.
The founder’s son explains the reasons that lead him to leave his vice presidency. “The attention and focus that my defense in the judicial process requires, at this moment, do not allow me to maintain the high commitment that my role in the company demands. For this reason, and out of responsibility, I have decided to temporarily step away from my dedication to Mango, maintaining the connection with other family, business, and social projects.” “I make this decision with sadness, but convinced that it is the best for the company and for me. I face this process with calm and strength, and I need to concentrate all my energy on proving my innocence,” he adds.
Jonathan Andic closes his letter with his intention to prove his innocence, a task to which he will now dedicate himself exclusively. “With the full support of my family and my environment, I face this situation with the calm and conviction that the facts will clearly demonstrate my innocence, and that the truth will ultimately prevail.”
