Murcia requests help from the UME and aerial resources from other communities to extinguish a forest fire in its municipality

A fire declared on the afternoon of this Tuesday in the Murcian districts of Los Garres and Lages has triggered the activation of the Infomur Plan in emergency phase, situation two. The Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Francisco Lucas, has confirmed that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO) has sent a coordination aircraft, two Alfa planes, a water bomber, and a helicopter that are already on their way. At 15:10 hours, the 112 emergency service received more than 200 calls alerting about a tongue of fire on the mountainside, according to reports from the Emergency Coordination Center.

Personnel from the Infomur Plan and two helicopters from the Directorate General of Citizen Security and Emergencies, a surveillance and control helicopter (ACOVI), a forest brigade from the Forest Fire Defense Unit (UDIF) along with environmental agents from the Directorate General of Natural Heritage and Climate Action have been dispatched to the site.

Additionally, five Civil Protection teams and eight fire extinguishing and rescue vehicles from the Murcia City Council, Civil Guard, and Local Police are also present in the area.

The Murcia City Council has begun evacuating nearby homes, according to the mayor, Rebeca Pérez, on social media. Additionally, emergency situation 2 of the Infomur Plan has been activated. The Local Police have cut traffic on the ascent to Cresta del Gallo via Teatinos and San José, and on Antonio Díaz Street in Los Garres.

This fire occurs while the Vega del Segura is under an orange alert for high temperatures issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), an alert that started at 14:00 and will end at 20:00. In Murcia city, a peak temperature of 39.9 degrees was recorded at two in the afternoon.
