Three occupants of a van have died and three others have been injured, two of them seriously, in a front-side collision with a rigid truck, while traveling on the A-1223 between Monzón and Polenino, at the height of the municipal term of Ilche (Huesca).
The traffic accident occurred around 08:45, when the 112 SOS Aragón Emergency Room informed the Traffic Operations Center of the Huesca Civil Guard that the incident had occurred, at kilometer 9 of the aforementioned A-1223, in the downward direction in the municipal term of Ilche.
All the injured were transferred by medicalized ambulance from the 061 emergency service to the hospital in the town of Barbastro. Two of the deceased, two men aged 65 and 75 from Mequinenza (Zaragoza), lost their lives in the accident and their bodies were transferred by funeral services to the Provincial Hospital, headquarters of the Legal Medicine Institute, in Huesca. A third man, 56 years old, who was seriously injured and hospitalized, died as a result of his injuries.
Two other occupants of the vehicle remain in serious condition, men aged 62 and 65, also residents of Mequinenza. The van driver, 47 years old and a resident of Zaragoza, was slightly injured.
The A-1223 road remains completely closed to traffic, and an alternative route is provided towards the A-22 highway and the N-240 national road.
At the scene, two patrols from the Traffic Detachment of the Binéfar Civil Guard, the Road Accident Team (EIS) of the Road Safety Investigation Unit (UNIS) of the Huesca Civil Guard Traffic Subsector, a Citizen Security patrol of the Barbastro Civil Guard, fire brigade, ambulances from the 061 emergency service, and road maintenance personnel have appeared. The Road Accident Team (EIS), based in Huesca, is investigating the causes of the traffic accident.
