Before landing in Madrid and beginning his seven-day visit to Spain, Pope Leo XIV did not miss the opportunity to give his opinion on some important issues inside the plane. During the flight, the Pontiff admitted to journalists that pedophilia in the Church “is still an open wound” and that he intends to continue fighting it, as he has always done throughout his life.
On another note, he also mentioned singer Bad Bunny, who is on tour in Spain, and the good reception he has among young people. Leo XIV admitted that he cannot compare himself to the Puerto Rican singer, but knows that he also has many followers of that age among his adherents: “Young people who are looking for something more, who in many cases have grown up without a spiritual dimension in their lives, realize that there is an emptiness, a lack of meaning, and perhaps my visit will help awaken something they don’t even know how to define. If they were asked: do you want to see Bad Bunny or the Pope?, I think many will see Bad Bunny. But I also think some will come to see the Pope. And that says a lot, you know? So I think it’s encouraging and I hope I can encourage young people.”
