Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, went out this Thursday to convey a message of calm one day after the United States announced the suspension of avocado exports due to the violence plaguing Michoacán. “We are making a very important work plan to further guarantee security in certain areas, where there was not much presence of the National Guard,” the president detailed. The Mexican government has requested a meeting “as soon as possible” with the U.S. Embassy, the Department of Agriculture, and the team of U.S. agricultural inspectors to resume the shipment of the fruit, the second most exported food product across the border.
