The residents of the Segovian municipalities of Los Ángeles de San Rafael and Vegas de Matute will return to their homes in the coming hours after the Junta of Castilla y León agreed to lift the evacuation measure due to the improvement of the conditions of the fire declared over the weekend in Navas de San Antonio, in the province of Segovia, as well as the reopening to traffic of the SG-722 road and lowering the Potential Severity Index (IGR) of the fire to IGR 1.

The technicians of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI) agreed on Tuesday morning to allow the return of about 180 people to their homes after being since Sunday in sports facilities in El Espinar and the civic center La Panera in Villacastín. The measure is taken after lifting last night the confinement of the municipality of Valdeprados due to the improvement of the situation in recent hours and after the night work carried out by the operation.
Likewise, the SG-722 road, which remained closed along its entire route, has been reopened to traffic. Once all the protection measures adopted for the population were lifted, the Potential Severity Index (IGR) of the fire dropped to IGR 1.
The fire situation improved during this Monday thanks, among other factors, to less adverse weather conditions and the intensity of the work carried out by ground and aerial means. During the afternoon, the Junta of Castilla y León reported that the fire perimeter had not increased and the fire was without flame.

The Territorial Delegate of the Junta, Raquel Alonso, has praised the work carried out by the device during the night, which has allowed the fire that continues “without flame” in Navas de San Antonio to remain “perimetered.” Alonso announced the start of logistics actions “so that all the residents of the two evacuated municipalities return to their homes,” while thanking the collaboration of “everyone”: administrations, volunteers, firefighters, who have lent a “shoulder” in what they could and the people needed.
For his part, the head of the Environment service, Ignacio Quintanilla, emphasized that, throughout today, the “monitoring and consolidation” of the perimeter will continue after a night with “quite favorable” weather conditions.
