The general secretary of ERC and candidate for the Barcelona City Council, Elisenda Alamany, criticized the Government this Sunday for the management of mobility during last Wednesday’s total solar eclipse and attributed the problems recorded to a lack of foresight by the Catalan Executive. “It is not understood,” said the republican leader, who described the mobility device as a “failure” and considered that what happened shows that the Government is not sufficiently connected with the daily “concerns” of the citizens.
In statements to the media this Sunday during the Festa Major de Gràcia, in Barcelona, Alamany rejected that the mobility problems during the eclipse could be considered an isolated episode. “This is not a one-off event, it is not an anecdote,” she warned. The general secretary of ERC linked what happened to other problems that, in her opinion, show the difficulties of the Catalan Executive in managing public services. “We have strikes that threaten the Government, we have infrastructure collapse, but also a failed PISA report,” she listed before ironically saying that all these elements show that “the Government has us in a permanent eclipse.”
Alamany maintained that this succession of problems not only causes political wear on the Executive, but also harms citizens’ trust in institutions and affects “the credibility of public authorities.”

The general secretary of ERC also spoke about the situation in Ceuta, where security devices have been activated since Saturday in case of any attempt at cross-border movement. Alamany said that what is being seen these days, “more than a migratory problem and a humanitarian drama, is a matter of geopolitics,” and lamented the Government’s “little anticipation,” as well as the “paralysis” of its president, Pedro Sánchez. “We hope he tries to lead a European front to try to protect this border, and therefore, we can also see this humanitarian drama resolved,” she concluded.
