Bad news continues within the Norwegian royal family. King Harald V, 89 years old, was admitted this Monday to the Oslo Kingdom hospital due to hemolytic anemia, the Nordic country’s royal house reported. “The king has been treated in recent weeks with cortisone for hemolytic anemia. This has caused fluid to accumulate in his body, which needs to be treated in a hospital,” states a statement from that institution.

The Norwegian monarch will be on leave for two weeks, during which his son, Crown Prince Haakon, will act as regent at a time when his official schedule has decreased since his wife, Princess Mette-Marit, underwent a lung transplant.
At 89 years old, King Harald is not going through his best health moment. He was already on leave for several weeks in February and March due to a leg infection that required hospitalization in Tenerife (Spain), where he was on vacation.

And the oldest monarch in Europe, who has always said he will not abdicate (although he has given more responsibilities to his son), has faced various health problems in recent years, with several hospitalizations due to different types of infections. COVID took him to the hospital in March 2022. In 2023 he was hospitalized again due to an infection. He was last operated on in 2021 for a ligament in his knee, and a year earlier his heart valve implanted in 2005 was replaced, two years after a tumor was removed from his bladder.
