Little prophets

British six-episode comedy created, written, and directed by Mackenzie Crook that premiered earlier this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in the United Kingdom and will arrive on Apple TV on October 7 in all territories except the United Kingdom. The cast includes Mackenzie Crook, Pearce Quigley, Lauren Patel, Sir Michael Palin, Sophie Willan, Jon Pointing, and Paul Kaye.

It tells the story of the eccentric Michael Sleep (Quigley) who, since his beloved Clea disappeared seven years ago, has been living a very ordinary life. He works in a DIY store, visits his father, Brian (Palin), and hopes that Clea will return someday. One afternoon, Brian tells him about an old recipe that combines rainwater, horse manure, and quite a bit of alchemy. With the recipe in hand, Michael sets out (not without some skepticism) to create homunculi, magical spirits capable of predicting the future, hoping they have the answer to the question that consumes him: Will I see Clea again?

Michael is helped by Kacey (Patel), his young coworker, in an unlikely friendship born partly (though not entirely) from their mutual dislike of Gordon (Mackenzie Crook), the store manager. That relationship only fuels the frustration and curiosity of their nosy neighbors (Willan, Pointing), obsessed with finding out what the hell is going on in the garden shed.

Little Prophets was filmed in Manchester and surrounding areas, the setting of the story. The series incorporates animation elements in a story about friendship and hope, about the magical and the mundane, and about the secrets and lies hidden in a dead-end street.
