Barcelona women’s team smoothly passed their first test of the season. The blaugranas thrashed Costa Adeje Tenerife 5-0 at the Johan Cruyff, with goals from Graham Hansen, Claudia Pina, Ewa Pajor, Van Asten, and Paredes, making it clear from the first matchday that Pere Romeu’s ambition remains intact: to repeat the title and secure the eighth consecutive domestic trophy.

The match started with a familiar script. Tenerife retreated with five defenders and four midfielders, ready to give up the ball and wait for their chance on the counterattack. Barça, with Martina and Lúa Arufe as fullbacks, insisted on the flanks against a well-covered central corridor. Arufe tried her luck from distance and forced Noelia Ramos to intervene, while Martina headed over in the first clear chance of the game. The few visiting attacks came from Martí’s runs down the right wing.
Tenerife’s resistance lasted just over half an hour. In the 27th minute, a through ball from Pina found Graham Hansen inside the box, and the Norwegian did not miss. Twelve minutes later came the second: Pina, last season’s top scorer, unleashed a right-footed shot from the edge of the area that went low and close to the post. The first half ended 2-0, with the home team growing stronger as the half progressed.
The second half sealed the verdict. In just fifteen minutes, between the 48th and 62nd, Barça went from 2-0 to 5-0. Pajor opened the scoring, heading in after a cross from Graham Hansen down the wing. Shortly after came the fourth, a ball Van Asten pushed in easily after the visiting goalkeeper failed to fully clear a previous shot. Paredes closed the rout, finishing off a corner kick taken by Graham Hansen. With the match decided, the pace slowed and chances became scarce in the final stretch.
Behind the scoreline was Van Asten’s performance. The Dutch center-back, who had recovered in time from an overload to make her first official start, showed good ball skills, played cleanly from the back, and gave no chances in one-on-one duels. The club sees her as the natural heir to the role left by Mapi León, and the goal only rounded off her debut. She left to applause in the 55th minute, replaced by Marta Torrejón.

The starting eleven also reflected the squad’s tightness. With Aitana still recovering from ankle discomfort and the absences of Laia Aleixandri, Kika, Esmee Brugts, and Gemma Font, Pere Romeu called up players from the B team: up to seven players with B team contracts were included in the squad, among them Carolina, Mayssa, Elena, Lídia Gibert, and Anna Quer.
The final stretch also saw the match’s yellow cards. Martina received a yellow in the 73rd minute after a VAR review for a tackle that Tenerife claimed was a red; Cata, already in goal, was booked in the 81st, and Pina and Aithiara got cards in stoppage time. Referee Lorena Trujillano added eight minutes at the end of the match.
With the substitutions, the coach gave minutes to Kerolin Nicoli, the signing expected to make a difference up front, and to three youth players, Baha, Ferrera, and Vizuete, who debuted with the first team in the final stretch. 2,458 spectators attended the Johan Cruyff, a modest figure confirming that much of the blaugrana fanbase is still on vacation.
