Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of a road safety offense after admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol in the south of Gran Canaria, according to the local newspaper Atlántico Hoy and confirmed by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands. The footballer, who has not yet debuted this season due to injury, is awaiting the start of the oral trial for sharing a non-consensual sexual recording of a minor and another of 18 years old. Three other former youth players of the white team will also be tried in this case.

The events occurred on August 16 in the tourist municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the south of the island. The player was driving a Porsche when officers stopped him at a preventive traffic checkpoint, in the early hours from Saturday to Sunday. The operation was part of the routine campaigns that the Local Police and Civil Guard deploy on leisure nights in the south of the island. The same sources indicate that the footballer did not suffer any accident nor was driving recklessly.
At the checkpoint, the athlete registered a result of 0.90 mg/l of alcohol in exhaled air. The maximum allowed rate for general drivers is 0.25 mg/l. Exceeding 0.60 mg/l, the administrative offense becomes a road safety crime.
Asencio admitted the facts three days later, on August 19, in a fast trial held in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The number 3 seat of the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance imposed a fine of four months with a daily fee of 120 euros —14,400 euros in total— and the withdrawal of the driving license for eight months.
Oral trial
This will not be the athlete’s only court appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office requests two years, six months, and one day of imprisonment for Asencio, as well as a fine of 100 euros daily for 24 months and compensation of 10,000 euros for two offenses against privacy, for sharing a sexual content video of two women —one 16 years old and the other 18— who were unaware they had been recorded.
Asencio was not present at the sexual encounter, which was consensual. He is charged with a crime of revealing secrets in conjunction with another of child pornography: he allegedly received the video and showed it to a third party knowing it had been recorded without permission, that the affected parties had requested it be deleted, and that one of them was a minor.
The events occurred on June 15, 2023, at a beach club in Gran Canaria. Three former Real Madrid youth players, already detached from the club, had relations with the young women: Ferrán Ruiz and Juan Rodríguez Lima with the minor, and Andrés García Alemán with the 18-year-old girl. There was also another 17-year-old woman at the location. According to the prosecutor’s account in an order accessed by this newspaper, Ferrán started recording without consent and then passed the phone to Juan, who continued filming and photographing. The three later provided the material to third parties with the intent to undermine the dignity of the minor and the privacy of both.
The minor’s defense requested at the beginning of June four years in prison for Asencio and the opening of a trial for revealing secrets and child pornography against him and the three former youth players. For these, the Prosecutor’s Office requests four years and seven months, a prohibition to approach within 500 meters of the affected parties’ homes or workplaces, and 25,000 euros in compensation for each of the two women.
