In the midst of the literary storm over Rachel Cusk’s new novel, Life of M, in which the author destroys Natalie Portman (Jerusalem, 45 years old) without naming her, the actress has become a mother for the third time. According to a source confirmed to People magazine, the actress gave birth last August in Paris. For now, the baby’s sex and exact birth date are unknown. This is her third child, the first with her current partner, music producer Tanguy Destable, artistically known as Tepr (46 years old). The Oscar-winning star announced the pregnancy in an exclusive interview with Harper’s Bazaar, where she said she was “very grateful.” “I know it is a privilege and a miracle,” she added.

The birth comes two years after Portman’s divorce from her first husband and father of her two older children, choreographer Benjamin Millepied, was confirmed in March 2024, following months of rumors. Portman and Millepied met during the filming of Black Swan, the psychological thriller about the dance world directed by Darren Aronofsky, in which the dancer worked as choreographer. In December 2010, People magazine announced their engagement and that they were expecting their first child together; she was 29 years old and had previously been in relationships with actors Lukas Haas and Gael García Bernal, as well as Venezuelan-American singer Devendra Banhart.
Portman’s first pregnancy with Tanguy Destable, who creates music for films, video games, and fashion shows, was revealed on April 17 through the mentioned interview with Harper’s Bazaar. Since then, the Instagram profile of the actress from Thor and Closer, which has 9.3 million followers, has been an updated diary of how she has experienced this last pregnancy, from a visit to Disneyland Paris at the end of June, where she is seen in a photo with Minnie, to a photo with friends from early July — where her belly is already clearly visible — and the latest, a snapshot published on July 29, where she poses on a bright balcony while looking at her belly. The relationship between the couple has been known for just over a year, when it was revealed by the French press. Since then, both, following Portman’s style, have kept it discreet. There has been no official couple appearance on any red carpet nor have they shared images together on their respective social media. In her interview with the magazine, the actress also said this will “probably” be her last child: “There is a serenity and self-knowledge — knowing who I want to spend time with, what kind of energy I want around me — that makes the experience very beautiful, day after day. And, knowing it is probably the last time, I enjoy every moment.”
During her first pregnancy, the actress proudly showed her belly on the red carpets of major award ceremonies, including the Golden Globes and the Oscar for Best Actress she received in 2011 for Black Swan. When accepting the latter, the actress, then five months pregnant, referred to Millepied — who also has a small role in the film — as her “beautiful love” and thanked him for giving her the most important role of her life, “that of mother.” On June 14 of that same year, she gave birth to her son Aleph Portman Millepied, who is now a 15-year-old teenager.

One year after this birth, on August 6, 2012, the couple married in an intimate ceremony in Big Sur, California, of which very few details were made public, such as that only about 60 guests attended, it was held at eight in the evening, and they married according to the Jewish rite. Shortly before, in one of their last public appearances during the 2012 Oscars, both wore rings that were seen as wedding bands, although it ultimately turned out to be a premature conclusion.
