The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, and the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, met this Tuesday in Barranquilla and highlighted the intention of both countries to resume a historic relationship, especially as both governments show such ideological affinity. In practice, they have signed what the local leader has called the Barranquilla Agreements, a series of security and investment measures aimed at establishing the bridges of renewed friendship between countries.

“We talked a lot about security issues and this is key, because without security there can be no prosperity. The opportunities that exist between Colombia and the United States are much more than just security,” Rubio said in Spanish during a press conference, which did not allow questions, at the end of the meeting. In turn, De la Espriella detailed that both countries will work hand in hand on different axes. Besides security, also on energy, critical minerals, the modernization of the Colombian army, or migration.
